Romano-Byzantine archaeology: Yanouh roman temples and byzantine basilica, Akoura roman stairs and Mar Edna sites, Mar Sarkis and Bacchus Mechmech

The hinterland of Byblos has been inhabited since ancient times. The local indigenous populations of the mountain, influenced by the various civilizations which that occupied the coastal cities, adapted their monuments and architecture to the models brought by the dominant powers of the region. Thus, during the Roman and Byzantine periods, many indigenous religious sites of the mountain underwent transformations and additions, leading to the construction of monuments such as temples during the Roman period and basilicas in the Byzantine period. The more or less well-preserved remains of some of these monuments are still visible mainly in Yanouh and, to a lesser extent, in Akoura and Mechmech.
